Ladd’s Pavilion

A family in SE Portland came to JBA with a need for occasional covered off-street parking, which needed to be secure from the alley with convenient access to the house. But they didn’t want an unsightly carport as a focal point for their backyard. Collaborating with Landscape Architect Dorothy Bothwell, we proposed elevating the idea of ‘carport’ to create an elegant but practical cedar pavilion for outdoor gatherings and family meals. We also designed a new deck to create a cohesive overhaul to the entire backyard space. The result is a multi-use pavilion just a few steps from the backdoor, and a peaceful retreat for all seasons.
